The Biggest Takeaway from My Ethics in Accountancy Course

We’re nearing the end of the semester and this will be my last blog post!
I learned a lot in this course (much more than I thought I would), but my biggest take away is this:
I WILL NEVER BE A PUBLIC AUDITOR!
Like, ever.
The amount of social and legal responsibilities our government has laid at CPA’s feet is asinine. When a corporation commits fraud that an auditor happened to not find (audits are not meant to find fraud because they are often covered up by upper management), anyone and everyone who can sue the auditor, will. Just because they can.

I’ve never had much desire to work for one of the “Big Four” or others like them, but this class sealed that. Working 60-80 hours per week, frequent travel away from my family, AND the opportunity to be sued at any time for fraud OTHER PEOPLE committed…
And with that little nugget of knowledge, I conclude this short lived blog. If you decide to take an ethics course at college, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Happy holidays!
